Dave Byrd, driving for car owner Kenny
Whelan, finished 2nd in what was to be a "shake down run" in a brand
new Late Model at Madera Speedway on Saturday, April 19th in the
NASCAR Whelen
Racing Series.
"The Whelan's and I have been friends
since we were really just kids. When Kenny ask me to help him, by
driving his new car and giving feedback on adjusting it, I didn't
hesitate.", explained Byrd.
The shake down quickly turned into a
run for the front.
"I couldn't help it! It's a beautiful
car and it wanted to run!", laughed Byrd. "I thought I could beat him
(race winner Joey Sterns) at the end. Joey drove a good race and was
a little more conservative than I thought he would be, but I gave it
a shot. Some more adjustment and this car will be a great ride.",
predicted Byrd.
Next
race up on the schedule, in the Dave's SRL Southwest Tour title defense, is April 26th at the newly renamed Toyota
Speedway at Irwindale in Southern California.
