Put another one in the log books for Dave Byrd and his Bob
Strandwold owned Flashco SRL Southwest Tour Racing Team. They made their
first ever trip to the newly renamed "Toyota Speedway at Irwindale"
in Southern California for the "Anderson
Windows & Doors 100".
"What was there not to like?", Dave
asked. "The track was a blast to drive, although I have to admit, it
was a little hard to go barreling into the corner with a brand new
car. We hadn't even been on the track, with the car, and I wasn't
all that sure how the car would react!"
The team was able to qualify 8th,
and with a 10 car invert draw, they lined up on the inside of the
second row for the start of the 100 lap main event. Things got off
to a good start with Byrd passing to take the lead for a short time.
The car did seem to slowly fade and over 100 laps Byrd was able to
hang on for a 10th place finish.
"We were probably one adjustment
away from having the perfect set up", explained Crew Chief Jeff
Strandwold. "We were able to get one good practice session in on
Friday night when the track was at race conditions and we really
could have used more testing time, but all in all were pretty happy
with the new car."
The next race on the schedule for
Dave Byrd Racing is round three of the 12-race, 2008 Flashco
SRL Southwest Tour. May 10th the team will tow to Tucson Raceway
Park in Tucson, Arizona.
