Blakesley / Dave Byrd Racing 6/6/07
After
qualifying third on Saturday, Dave Byrd and the Performance Electric Racing
Team were only able to complete 20 laps in Eldorado Westcar competition
at Altamont Motorsports Park.
Byrd clicked
off a 18.156 at 99.141 miles per hour in the Performance Electrical
Chevrolet.
During
warm-ups for the 100 lap feature, a leak was discovered out of the
rear end of the car. The first caution of the event flew on lap 20,
with Byrd sacrificing a current sixth place to head to the pits.
”We had
trouble with the rear end of the car,” Byrd said. “It was a problem with the quick
change. After 20 laps, the other teams were reporting oil and
we went in.”
Since Bob Strandwold
Racing is running part time in the Westcar Series, the decision was
made to park the car and not risk ruining the racing surface for the
other competitors.
“I wanted
to be able to get 100 laps in on this car,” Byrd said. “The set up
crew chief Jeff Strandwold choose to put under this car felt good. I
know we would have been right there at the end!”
“We were
loosing traction in the corners so we made a gear change for some
more forward bite,” Byrd said. "I guess it was just too much for
it," Byrd laughed.
Bob Strandwold
Racing and Byrd were coming off a big win at Madera last weekend in
the SRL Wild West Shootout. The team is second in the SRL standings,
and is campaigning both full time in the SRL and part time in the Westcar
Series.
Next up will
be round four of the Westcar Series at Ukiah Speedway on June 23rd.
The track is a high-banked quarter-mile bullring.
“Last time we
were there we figured out the chassis, and got rid of our push,”
Byrd said. “I like the track. We were successful last time, even
with the issues. We can be in the top-three.”
