Last years reigning track champion
made a visit back to the old stomping grounds and pulled off the
upset victory. Upsetting that is, for the other competitors!
2006 Altamont
Motorsports Park Track Champion Dave Byrd started the day off by
qualifying for the NASCAR All American Feature Division,
turning a lap of 18.156 at 99.141 miles per hour in the Performance Electrical
Chevrolet.
The win didn't come all that easy,
though! After the invert draw, Byrd had to come from mid field and
patiently work his way through traffic. "This is a fast track and
these are some great competitors, but with the track improvements
here at AMP at least there is room to race," stated Byrd!
Byrd had also previously won the AMP
track championship in 1995, before the track was reconfigured to
it's current layout.
"Our team uses
these appearances to loosen up and have some fun racing, while also
staying sharp, so we can focus on our main goal of competing in the
Stockcar Racing League," Byrd said.
The team is
leading in the SRL standings,
and is campaigning both the Stockcar Racing League, full time, and
making part time appearances in other series, as time will allow.
Next up for
Byrd and the Performance Electrical Racing Team will
be round four of the Stockcar Racing League at Shasta Speedway on July
28th.
The track is a high-banked quarter-mile bullring.
