Dave Byrd of
Monterey, California and the Performance Electric Racing Team,
qualified at an 18.016 at 99.234 miles per hour and then went on to
out perform some of the best stockcar racers from Central
California.
In front of an
almost capacity crowd and with numerous competitors visiting from
other tracks, Dave rolled to victory in the NASCAR Whelen All
American racing series.
"This is a very special win for us
with all the great teams that have shown up for this race," remarked
Byrd. "We had an open date in our calendar and I was very glad to
see so many other quality teams did too," added Byrd.
Although, Byrd was
listed as the defending champion in the program, after winning the
2006 Altamont Track Championship, Byrd raced as a guest in the
series, due in part to choosing to run in the Stockcar Racing League
Touring Series this year instead of returning to defend his title.
"We wanted to come
out and get geared up to finish off the season strong,"
an obviously thrilled Bob Strandwold exclaimed! "With (Crew Chief
and brother) Jeff (Strandwold) and the boys having these cars dialed
in and Dave's awesome driving, this is what makes racing fun,"
shared Bob.
The next
challenge up on Byrd's racing schedule will be the final round of the
Stockcar Racing League. Dave and the Performance Electric Team are
the point leaders in the championship hunt. The SRL Series will wrap
up their season right back here at Altamont Motorsports Park on
October 13th.
